GeM Seller Registration

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is where central and state government departments and PSUs buy goods and services. Registering as a seller is free; what takes effort is getting the profile, documents and — for manufacturers — vendor assessment right so the business can bid and be ordered from. RITS & Associates handles GeM registration and profile set-up.

What sellers need to get right

A GeM profile is checked against government databases — PAN, GST, Udyam and income-tax data — so the details have to match exactly. Manufacturers selling their own products usually need vendor assessment, and every product or service offered has to be catalogued in the right category.

MSEs registered on Udyam get purchase preference and other benefits in government procurement, so Udyam registration should be done first.

Documents required

  • PAN of the business, and CIN for a company.
  • Aadhaar or PAN of the authorised signatory, with linked mobile number.
  • Income-tax return details.
  • Bank account details.
  • GSTIN, where registered.
  • Udyam registration, for MSE benefits.
  • For manufacturers: factory details for vendor assessment.

The process

  1. Create the seller account

With the authorised signatory's details and OTP verification.

  2. Complete the profile

Business details, PAN, GST, Udyam, bank and tax data, validated online.

  3. Vendor assessment

    For OEMs, where required.

  4. Catalogue

Products or services listed in the right categories with correct specifications.

Getting orders on GeM

  • Complete, accurate catalogue listings with the right specifications and images.
  • Competitive pricing — GeM shows buyers comparable offers.
  • Watching and responding to bids and reverse auctions in your categories.
  • Keeping delivery, invoicing and quality ratings strong, since buyers see them.

Under the public procurement policy for micro and small enterprises, central ministries and PSUs aim to buy a share of their annual requirements from MSEs, which is why Udyam registration matters for GeM sellers.

Practical notes from our engagements

  • Details that don't match PAN or GST records. Validation fails on small differences. Use the exact registered name and address.
  • Udyam not done first. MSE preference depends on it.
  • Catalogue in the wrong category. Buyers search by category; the wrong one means no orders.

How we handle GeM registration

We make sure the business's PAN, GST, Udyam and tax records are consistent first, then complete the GeM profile and vendor assessment, and help set up the catalogue.
